Types of Baseball Bats
Baseball bats were at one time all carved from a suitable hardwood, but these days there are several different types in use, and in professional teams baseball bats can vary between different leagues and divisions. Here are some of the different baseball bats available:
Hickory Bats - hickory was the traditional wood used in baseball bats, and while it is durable and still commonly used, it does produce a very dense bat that some players may find too heavy.
White Ash - this is currently the most popular woods for baseball bats as is combines flexibility and durability, and is also light enough to swing easily while still retaining a solid hitting power.
Maple - this is very similar to white ash, although a lot more expensive so is not commonly used at the amateur levels.
Aluminium bat - aluminium is fast becoming one of the most popular types of bats, as it combines strong hitting power and durability all in a very lightweight package. Aluminium bats are not allowed in the Major League, but can be used in some minor leagues. These bats are cheap, long lasting and easy to use and so are one of the most popular bats on the market for amateurs.
